France had multiple opportunities to win in the last minute but the Serbians held on to take a 70-67 victory on Saturday and finish the First Round without a single loss, at the top of Group A.
France held a 67-66 lead, but succesive basketsby Aleksandar Cvetkovic and Nemanja Besovic allowed Serbia to take the upper hand in the duel, as Axel Toupane missed a three-pointer to tie the game at the buzzer.
Serbia big man Besovic collected 17 points, while the guard duo of Cvetkovic and Nenad Miljenovic scored 14 and 13 points respectively.
Livio Jean-Charles had a team-high 17 points and five rebounds for the losing side.
Although both sides committed a similar amount of turnovers, Serbia used the opponent's mistakes more wisely, collecting 26 points from turnovers, while France scored only 16.
Serbia advanced to the Second Round as the first seed of Group A and will start the next stage of the competition with two wins in their account
France will have to start from zero, having lost to the second-placed team of the group, Germany.
