Russia Brush Away Debutants Estonia

Russia confirmed their status as one of the medal contenders at the U20 European Championship, cruising to an 86-58 victory against Division A debutants Estonia on the first day of the competition in Krajnska Gora.

Throughout the game, the Russians did not trail once, getting off to a quick 5-0 start and maintaining full control of the game the rest of the way.

Vlad Trushkin collected 16 points and six rebounds for the Russian team, Alexander Varnakov scored 12 points, while Alexander Tikhonin finished the game with 11 points.

Oliver Metsalu was the top-scorer for Estonia with 11 points, but last year's Division B runners-up failed to take care of the ball, committing a total of 29 turnovers against the sturdy Russian defence.

On Friday, Russia will test another neighbouring country in Ukraine, while Estonia will be looking for their first victory in the game against Greece.
