Russia booked a spot in the U20 European Championship Qualifying Round with an 81-75 victory against Group B rivals Ukraine, despite not looking so convincing at all times.

The Russians held the lead the entire game, but Ukraine closed the gap to 70-73 with a minute.

However, Russia shot well from the free-throw line and managed to fend off the late challenge.

Vladislav Trushkin was once again the top scorer for the winners with 15 points, Denis Zakharov had 13, while Gleb Goldyrev added 12 points.

Klym Aramonov and V'Yacheslav Bobrov were the main reasons why Ukraine stayed reasonably close throughout the game, while Olexandr Mishula took over in the second half.

Mishula finished the game with 23 points, while Bobrov, who played only 19 minutes the day before, looked really inspired, battling against the whole Russian team on his own in the post, finishing the game with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

With the ticket to the next phase already in their pocket, the Russians will take on Greece in the last game of the preliminary round on Saturday, while Ukraine will desperately need a win against Estonia.
