U20 MEN

Latvia eased past Georgia on the opening day of the U20 European Championship, blowing past last year's Division B champions 88-50 in a Group C game in Domzale.

The much more experienced Latvian team broke away early in the game, leading 11-4 already after the first five minutes before gradually increasing the lead throughout the rest of the encounter.

Janis Timma led the Baltic side with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Ojars Silins collected 12 points, as all twelve players scored for Latvia.

Georgia guard Merab Bokolishvili was the top scorer in the losing team with 15 points, while Duda Sanadze chipped in with 12 points.

The Georgians will try to get their campaign back on track in the game against Turkey on Friday, while Latvia will face last year's U20 European champions, Spain.
