One of the most promising meetings for the future of the exciting FIBA Europe UNIVERSITAS project took place in Saint Petersburg over the weekend.

FIBA Europe Head of Operations Miguel Betancor was in the beautiful Russian city to hold talks with Professor Vladimir Taymazov, Rector of the National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health over the role the great educational institution could play in UNIVERSITAS.

Mr Taymazov confirmed that the famous University of Saint Petersburg intends to play a leading role in the development of the UNIVERSITAS project with the full support of the Russian Basketball Federation, which is one of the most enthusiastic supporters of this FIBA Europe initiative.

The University of Saint Petersburg was also confirmed as the venue of a grand meeting of all Russian institutions that form part of UNIVERITAS in the spring.

One of the main objectives of the UNIVERSITAS project is to promote basketball as an educational tool beyond basketball courts, by creating educational programs that reach students in universities and all other academic levels alike.
