FIBA Europe Secretary General Visits Albania

02 June 2006

Albania may not be known as a basketball stronghold, but despite being one of FIBA Europe's smallest members, the Albanian federation is working hard to boost basketball's popularity.

This week has seen Albania host its first ever FIBA Europe event, the Promotion Cup, and Secretary General Nar Zanolin took the opportunity to meet with Albanian Minister of Sport Bujar Lskaj, the head of the National Olympic Committee Hysen Domi and officials from the national basketball federation.

"We are delighted to have Albania hosting a FIBA Europe tournament and what I have witnessed here in Durssi has impressed me," said Zanolin.

"FIBA Europe is committed to working with our smaller federations to really help them to develop their basketball programmes. One way to do that is through having them host our events. Another example is our new coaching department which will assist national federations in finding and educating national coaches at all levels. We we also be helping the Albanian federation to develop and strengthen its administrative structure," he added.

"I have received strong commitments from everybody I have spoken to that they will collaborate together, and FIBA Europe will do whatever it can to assist that process."
