Top Coaches To Meet In Munich

13 October 2006

Spanish national team Head Coach Pepu Hernandez will be just one of several of the game's top names to attend the first FIBA Europe Coaching meeting on Monday in Munich, Germany.

Hernandez will be joined by an impressive line-up of basketball's premier playcallers, including Dirk Bauermann, David Blatt, Svetislav Pesic, Carlo Recalcati and Bogdan Tanjevic.

The FIBA Europe coaching department was created in December 2005 under Coaching Coordinator Michael Schwarz.

The overall goal of the department is to support the national federations in the development and education of basketball coaches at all levels across Europe.

As well as consulting extensively with the federations as to their specific needs, the coaching department has already held several coach clinics and will launch a dedicated coaching web site next week.

Monday's meeting will be a chance for Europe's top coaches to give their feedback to the coaching department's current activities. It will also be an open forum for discussion where the participants can help to shape the department's future strategy.

"We are really excited to have so many experienced coaches agree to take part in this meeting," said Schwarz.

"It's a great opportunity not only for us to show these guys what we have achieved up until now, but to get their thoughts and ideas as to which areas we need to concentrate on in the future."
