FIBA Europe President Leads Segura De Luna Tribute

FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos was one of several European basketball leaders who paid tribute to honorary Spanish Basketball President Ernesto Segura de Luna on Friday night.

Segura de Luna was honoured at a dinner in Madrid, Spain on the occasion of the meeting of the Board of FIBA Europe.

Segura de Luna, currently 84 years of age, served as Spanish Basketball Federation President from 1972-1984 and then again from 1992-2004.

"Ernesto, always calm and wise, has been somebody really special, a person that has helped all of us, on many aspects, as a leader and an example," said Mr Vassilakopoulos in his speech.

"This personality of world calibre has honoured me for more than 20 years with his friendship and co-operation. Thank you very much for all you have done for me, for all of us here, for Spanish, European and world basketball."

FIBA Secretary General Emeritus Borislav Stankovic, Secretary General Patrick Baumann and Spanish Federation President Jose Luis Saez also publicly gave thanks to Segura de Luna for his 50-year career in basketball.
