Board Approves EuroBasket Dates

The Board of FIBA Europe ratified the dates for EuroBasket 2007 Men and Women at its pre-General Assembly meeting on Friday in Munich, Germany.

EuroBasket will be held 7th – 16th September 2007 in Spain, while EuroBasket Women will take place 24th September to 7th October 2007 in Chieti, Italy.

The meeting was the last of the 2002 – 2006 term of office and elections for the new Board will be held on Saturday 13th May at the General Assembly. President George Vassilakopoulos used the opportunity to remember old friends.

One minute’s silence was held for FIBA Europe Vice-President Valery Kuzin who passed away on 27th April 2006 at the age of 42. Mr. Vassilakopoulos also paid tribute to Competitions Commission President and Board member Danny Kesten (ISR) who died on 22nd June 2003 age 65.

Mr. Vassilakopoulos thanked all of the Board members for their contribution in the term of office.

“I would like to thank you all for your efforts in working together over the last four years towards a healthy, strong and financially stable FIBA Europe,” he said.

“I am very satisfied with the work we have carried out and it’s been a pleasure to work with you all.”

Mr. Vassilakopoulos’s words were reiterated by Secretary General Nar Zanolin.

“I would like to thank everyone in the Board for being pro-Europe in their outlook,” he said.

“Everybody here has worked hard to make FIBA Europe better, which makes not only my job easier but a pleasure to carry out.”
