The FIBA Europe Competitions Commission met on Saturday in Izmir, Turkey on the occasion of the Ostchem U20 European Championship Men.
The club competition line-up for the 2006/2007 season was approved.
In addition, keeping in mind the goal of satisfying the present needs for the further development of European basketball, the Commission discussed the future system for all club competitions and produced the following proposal:

“This proposal is based on our desire to have a simple system of competition which can be easily explained to European clubs, media and basketball fans,” said FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos.
“This system is inspired by the successful competition system used by another high level sport, one that we think could be beneficial for basketball.”
The Commission also discussed the possibility of amending the national team calendar.
“We have had a large number of requests from our national federations to review the allotted period for national team games and our next main task will be to study this issue,” said FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.
