FIBA Europe 2006 National Team Competition Calendar Set

FIBA Europe will run 22 national team competitions in 2006, ranging from U16 to senior team qualifiers for EuroBasket 2007 Men and Women.

Following the distribution of the four World Championship wildcards by FIBA at the Central Board meeting on 28th November, FIBA Europe has now finalised the 2006 national team calendar.

EuroBasket

Division A EuroBasket qualifying round games will take place on 31st August, 3rd, 6th, 9th, 13th and 16th September 2006. Six teams (Greece, Germany, France, Spain, Lithuania and Slovenia) have already qualifed for EuroBasket 2007 which will be held in Spain. Italy, Serbia & Montenegro and Turkey are also qualified as wild card entrants.

The remaining 15 teams in Division A will be divided into four groups to play for the seven available EuroBasket spots. The top six (four group winners plus two best second-placed teams) will qualify automatically and the remaining nine teams will go to the additional qualifying round. 

EuroBasket Division B qualifiying round games will take place on 9th, 13th and 16th September 2006.

The draw for the EuroBasket Men Qualifying Round Divisions A & B will take place on 11th February 2006 in Madrid, Spain.

EuroBasket Women

EuroBasket Women qualifying round games will take place on 6th, 9th, 13th, 16th, 20th and 24th September.

Five teams (Russia, Czech Republic, Spain, Lithuania and France) as well as 2007 EuroBasket Women host nation Italy have already qualifed for the final round.

The remaining 18 teams in Division A will play for the ten available spots in EuroBasket Women 2007. The 18 teams will be divided into three groups of four and two groups of three. The top nine (five group winners plus four best second-placed teams) will qualify automatically for EuroBasket Women and the remaining nine teams will go to the additional qualifying round. 

EuroBasket Women Divsion B qualifying round games are scheduled for 9th, 13th and 16th September 2006.

The draw for the EuroBasket Women Qualifying Round Divisions A & B will take place on 11th February 2006 in Madrid, Spain.

Youth Events 

14 youth competitions will be held in 2006 and the venues and dates can be found in the table below.

The draw for each competition will take place on 25th February in Krakow, Poland.

Promotion Cups

The Promotion Cup for Men will be hosted by Albania, 29th May - 3rd June 2006. The Promotion Cup for Women will be in Malta, 18th - 23rd July 2006.
