U16 WOMEN

Russian made a strong affirmation of their value, defeating hosts Hungary, 61-53, while securing one of the top two spots in U16 European Championship Women Group E.

Their decisive player was point guard Ksenia Levchenko, scoring 10 points and dishing six assists.

Levchenko is flying under the radar, mastering a Russian team that suffers every time she is pressured and stops delivering the ball to her teammates.

That's what happened during the first quarter, when Hungary's Andrea Kovacs launched a web around the Russian playmaker and her team showed to be comfortable facing the strong Russian frontcourt.

When Levchenko finally freed herself, shooting a three-pointer that gave the lead to the Russians, the game changed ways, with Russia playing more consistently and having also better options coming from the bench.

Agn├ęs Dobos, who had a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds, was lacking stamina for the fight with her opponents, being the only true center Hungary has.

Elizaveta Bratchikova and Daria Kolosovskaya, scoring 23 and 15 points respectively, were Russia's best scorers.

On Wednesday Russia face Belgium in a game that will decide the winner of Group E.
