Great Defence Key To Russian Win

12 July 2012

Russia claimed a merited win over Greece, 47-40, in an emotional game between two very balanced teams in Group B of the U16 European Championship Women.

The Russians had surely more frontcourt power and weren't shy to use it from the first minute.

As for the Greek team, playing with a great attitude and lots of high pressure defence, they were able to keep themselves on the run during all the game.

At half time the result (20-19) showed how balanced the match-up was.

Greece tried to make the Russians' life in this tournament difficult, but they fell in foul trouble during this effort.

They finished the game with five players having three fouls or more.

Russia kept cool and controlled the game, obligating Greece to spend a lot of time looking for an open shot, which forced the Greeks to more turnovers in the last quarter.

Daria Kolosovskaya had an impressive double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, having in Tatiana Sema (six points and six rebounds) her best teammate.

Maria Goula was the best Greek shooter with 13 points.
