After a great season in Germany, all eyes will be on Strelnieks to take his high level of play to the international stage. A floor general at heart, the 26-year-old guard from Talsi will arguably be the most important player on Latvia's squad, given that there is no viable point guard option on the roster. Despite lacking some quickness, Strelnieks is an excellent playmaker with a great feel for the game and a deadly shooter from beyond the three-point line. Having moved to Germany following two solid seasons in Ukraine, the point guard played a key role in Brose Baskets Bamberg retaking their Bundesliga crown after a one-year hiatus. In his third EuroBasket tournament with the national team, Strelnieks is ready to take over as the leader of the squad. It is almost a foregone conclusion that Coach Bagatskis will count on him for 30 minutes of quality basketball on a daily basis and for much of Latvia's success. Whether there is actually any to be had probably hinges largely on whether he can deliver.
