Bourousis is one of three players, together with Spanoulis and Zisis, who link today's Greek national team to the side that won gold at EuroBasket 2005. He stepped up as the big man in the middle in the starting line-up at the 2008 Olympic Games and has kept that role ever since, often leading the team in scoring and rebounds. On offence, he has perfected over the years a repertoire which includes a highly-effective hook-shot when he receives with his back to the rim and a high-release jumper off the pick'n'pop from mid-range or even from behind the three-point arc. On defence, he is solid even in the toughest low-post battles and a competent shot-blocker. In May, Bourousis achieved a feat he had been pursuing throughout his career at top European clubs as he helped Real Madrid capture the Euroleague trophy, in addition to their three domestic titles.
