Nimrod Tishman made all the right plays down the stretch to help Israel edge out Russia 63-62 in their opening game of the U18 European Championships.

Tishman had a game high 26 points and hit the go-ahead shot with 19 seconds to go and his team held on for a shock win.

Russia led for the better part of the game, were up by as many as 10 early in the third period and still looked in a comfortable position leading 51-42 as they headed into the final quarter.

But Israel worked their way back into the game and took the lead 58-57 through Tishman with 1:48 left to play.

Pavel Antipov put Russia in front 59-58 with under a minute to go and, when Tishman hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds, it was a short-lived celebration for Israel as Dmitry Kulagin then converted a three-point play to put Mikhail Solovyevs side back in front, 62-61.

Israel though knew who to give the ball to and Tishman delivered once again to record a thrilling win.

Antipov had 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the way for Russia.
