Hejkova’s Dynamo March Into EuroCup Women Eighth-Finals

18 December 2008

Dynamo Moscow completed a comprehensive Sixteenth-Finals triumph over Solna Vikings in Russia in the EuroCup Women.

Natalia Hejkova's side routed their Swedish opposition in the first leg last week in Solna and on Thursday they cruised to an 89-57 victory for a 164-115 win on aggregate.

Oxana Zakalyuzhnaya poured in 26 points and pulled down 14 rebounds for Dynamo, who built a 43-26 advantage by half-time and cruised over the final 20 minutes.

Anete Jekabsone-Zogota chipped in 16 points for Dynamo, making three of six shots from long range.

Elisabeth Egnell had 16 points and Ida Andersson 14 for Solna.

There was plenty of drama in Vologda as Chevakata tried to overcome a 14-point first-leg deficit against Université BC Neuchâtel.

The Russians fell behind 30-22 at the end of the first quarter and appeared to be on their way out of the competition as they trailed by 22 points on aggregate.

In the second quarter, however, they outscored the Swiss opposition 25-6 for a 47-36 lead in the game.

They finally overhauled Neuchâtel in the third quarter and then did just enough to win 82-65 for a three-point win overall in the tie.

Ravenna Esperides drew with Challes-Les-Eaux Basket 51-51 on the night and that was good enough for a 128-113 triumph on aggregate.

After winning the first game on the road 77-62, the Greek side returned home and got a solid all-round game from Erica Davis who had 15 rebounds to go with her nine points.

Martina Gyurcsi had 16 points and seven boards in defeat for Challes-Les-Eaux Basket.

Zeviép endured a disappointing exit from the competition when they lost at home to Panionios G.S.S. 64-59.

The Hungarians returned home after a one-point defeat in the first leg full of hope of advancing but the Greek outfit had other ideas.

Heading into the fourth quarter, Zeviép led 48-46 but a 9-0 run by Panionios gave the visitors the initiative and they ended up winning by six points on aggregate.

Panionios had a balanced scoring attack and one of their leading performers on the night was Dafni Stavrakaki, who had 10 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Olena Zherzherunova had 17 points in defeat.

Galatasaray cruised into the next round with a 75-66 victory over Municipal Targoviste.

The Turkish giants, one of the favorites to win this competition, won the first leg in Romania 96-67 so they didn't fret when Municipal Targoviste outscored them 24-9 in the first quarter.

They overcame the deficit in the game to record a 171-133 triumph over the two legs.

Seimone Augustus finished with 20 points for Galatasaray.

Home comforts did the trick for Lavezzini Basket, who overcame a five-point first-leg deficit at Gospic by winning 82-66 in Parma.

Daliborka Vilipic poured in a game-high 20 points and corralled nine rebounds for the Italian outfit with Australia international Laura Summerton scoring 17.
