The town of Albufeira, in Portugal, played host to the sixth edition of the annual Youth Basketball Festival, from 29 March to 1 April.
The event kicked off on Friday and featured about 200 basketball games at all levels, bringing together over 1,000 players, 500 staff members and more than 2,000 families.
For the sixth consecutive year, the event proved an enormous success and drew attention to basketball on national level.
Fisherman Square, in the centre of the town, was the stage of the opening ceremony.
Proceedings opened with a parade of the team delegations, accompanied by the volunteer fire-fighters of Albufeira.
After the parade, the young Portuguese basketball talents lined up to form the words I LOVE BASKET, in honour of the largest youth sports event in Portugal.

In total, 18 regions of the Iberian country were represented by 71 delegations of young players: Azores, Alentejo, Algarve, Aveiro, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Coimbra, Guarda, Leiria, Lisbon, Madeira, Oporto, Santarém, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu.
The Youth Basketball Festival is an initiative organized by the Portuguese Basketball Federation, in partnership with the Municipality of Albufeira, with the support of Immortal DC, Basketball Club of Albufeira and the Algarve Basketball Association.
The event also counts with the support of other regional basketball associations around the country.
