A total of 1,152 participants from Portugal traveled from the north to the south of the country to take part in a five-day youth basketball event.
FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin took part in the event’s opening ceremony and came away with high praise for the Portuguese organisers.
“I have never seen anything like this in my life,” said Zanolin.
“To see a train unload with hundreds of people involved in a basketball event was a sight to behold. The coordination involved for something like this required a tremendous organisational effort and I would like to congratulate the Portuguese Federation for a job well done.”
The basketball event was the biggest in Portugal’s history and showcased some of country’s top youth talents.
“Based on their commitment to youth, there is no doubt in my mind that Portugal will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come, both at the men and women’s levels.”
