BASKETBALL IN EUROPE
|Hana Horakova has called it a day on a sparkling career|
Former FIBA Europe Player of the Year Hana Horakova will say farewell in an exhibition game next month after the Czech legend decided to call time on her sparkling career.
The 33-year-old will take centre stage in an exhibition game at BK Imos Brno, where she spent some 12 years of her glittering pro-career.
The game will take place on 17 August with a number of top European stars expected to attend the event.
Horakova has been one of the leading players of her generation in Europe, excelling at club level in EuroLeague Women in terms of her production, as well as landing a title with Brno seven years ago.
A standout leader of the Czech national team, Horakova will perhaps best be remembered for being a central figure in the gold medal success at EuroBasket Women in 2005 and also for leading her country to the final of the FIBA World Championship for Women on home soil during 2010.
Her displays in Karlovy Vary resulted in her being named MVP of the Tournament and also formed the basis of her subsequent FIBA Europe Player of the Year accolade.
Horakova also grabbed a silver medal at EuroBasket Women 2003 in Greece.
