Damian Jennings will lead Great Britain at EuroBasket Women 2013, after the play-caller was belatedly given the nod with less than three months to go before the tournament tips-off.

Whilst time isn't on his side, Jennings does at least have a great working knowledge of the programme, having been involved with GB basketball since its inception during 2006.

He has worked extensively at various levels, delivering the U20 European Championship Women Division B title in 2010, and then leading the team to a best ever performance by a British side when they reached the quarter-finals of the U20 European Championship Division A, one year later.

More recently, he was part of Tom Maher's senior women's coaching team in their build up to the summer of 2012 and also coached at the World Student games.

Jennings has been working as the head coach of the women's basketball programme at the University of Calgary, Canada.

He also is a graduate of the first ever class of the FIBA Europe Coaching Certificate (FECC) programme which he finished as one of the four best graduates.

His top-of-the-class performance secured him a coaching position at the U18 All Star game during EuroBasket 2009.

His appointment comes with many of the well-publicised funding issues having now been resolved by the Federation and he can't wait to get started.

"Having been part of the coaching team since 2006, I'm honoured to have been given the chance to lead British Basketball's Women's programme into EuroBasket Women 2013" said Jennings.

"We are ambitious and we want to build a team capable of challenging for honours at the top of the international game.

"After convincing UK Sport that basketball was worthy of investment, we have a tough challenge ahead, but it's one I know both staff and players will thrive on. We want to deliver the best performances possible at the up-coming EuroBasket in France.

He added, "I want to thank British Basketball for the support they have given me. It's exciting to be part of a programme with such high ambitions for the future."

Jennings will be assisted by both Ken Shields and Vanessa Ellis, with the trio supported by team manager, Lucy Power. The training camp for the players will begin on 4th May.

One of the first tasks for Jennings will be to persuade star player Johannah Leedham to commit to the programme, should her bid to make the WNBA this summer fail to materialise. The guard has just helped Bourges Basket take third place at the EuroLeague Women Final Eight and much of their success in the summer will be dependent on whether she joins up with the party.

Great Britain are scheduled to face hosts France, Latvia and Serbia in Group C which will be played in Trelaze.
