Ramunas Butautas stepped down as head coach of Lithuania following his team's 89-79 defeat against Serbia on the final day of EuroBasket 2009 Qualifying Round in Lodz.

The result saw Lithuania finish dead last in Group F with an 0-5 mark. Their only win of the entire tournament was in the Opening Round against Bulgaria.

"Congratulations to Serbia and Mr Ivkovic. They played very well. We controlled the game but they played patiently and killed us with late three-pointers. Good luck to them in the next round. We go home. We didn't play well. We won one game only. We played very bad. I must leave this team now and I wish all the best to them," Butautas said.

Lithuania played this tournament without key players Sarunas Jasikevicius, Rimantas Kaukenas, Ramunas Siskauskas and Arvydas Macijauskas. They were without second leading scorer Simas Jasaitis for the last two games.
