Russia stormed back from the death at the Samsung U18 European Championship, defeating Turkey 71-67 to move into the Quarter-Finals at the expense of the Turks.

Trailing by 14 points midway through the second quarter, Igor Kanygin and Oleg Alferov spearheaded the Russian comeback following half-time, combining for 26 second-half points to get Russia home.

Having not lead since the opening minute of the second quarter, Russia had the lead back on a Pavel Krechetov lay-up in the third minute of the final frame.

Turkey regained it back almost immediately but when Russia took it again on a Kanygin free-throw with 1:43 to play, they did not give it up again for the remainder of the night, with Viktor Kashin calmly slotting a free-throw to take the buffer past three with four seconds to play.

Alferov finished with 17 points and Kanygin had 11. Mikhail Kulagin contributed 13 points.

Burak Yildizli scored 11 points for Turkey.

The conclusion of the game also left a clear picture of who will play whom in the quarter-finals.

Croatia play Italy; Lithuania and Latvia square off in the battle of the co-hosts; Spain face Russia and the plucky Bulgarians meet Serbia.
