Turning Point: Spain outscore Italy 12-0 in the last five minutes of the first half to be leading by seven at the break, after being down by as much as 11 early on.

Game Hero: Oriol Pauli. The Spanish guard had his biggest game in the tournament to date, scoring a team-high 19 points.

Stats Don't Lie: Spain's guards provided more speed in transition, scoring 15 points on the fast-break compared to Italy's five.

Spain will do battle with Latvia for a spot at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship following on from their 70-63 win over Italy at the Samsung U16 European Championship on Saturday evening.

The win earns Spain a spot in the classification game for fifth and sixth spot against Latvia, the winner of which will grab the fifth and final spot available for a European team at next year's U19 World Championship.

Amedeo Tessitori left the Spaniards speechless in the opening quarter, picking up a rapid 12 points to give Italy a commanding nine-point lead at the end of the frame.

But with Tessitori effectively neutralised in the second period, Spain came storming back, outscoring Italy 12-0 in the final five minutes of the first half with three late turnovers leading to six points.

Italy stuck around in the third period, twice coming back to tie scores up. But when Spanish guard Josep Perez's half-court speculator on the buzzer went in, Spain were back up by eight points.

However, Italy refused to roll over, fighting back from 11 points down to twice come within three points in the final three minutes.

But Alberto Diaz was able to secure the win, scoring the game's final four points, before fittingly claiming the last rebound.

Diaz ended with 12 points, five rebounds and two assists. Oriol Pauli led his team with 19 points whilst Guillermo Hernangomez made 16.

Tessitori finished as the top provider for Italy with 20 points and six rebounds.
