Ukraine came back to defeat Germany, 60-57, on Saturday sending the Germans to the relegation round and propelling themselves into the final 12 at the Samsung U18 European Championship.

The game appeared to be over for Ukraine when leading scorer Vladyslav Koreniuk fouled out with a quarter still to play and his team trailing by eight points.

But Koreniuk's teammates took over with Kristian Lugovstov landing the killer-blow for Ukraine, sinking a three with just over a minute remaining to give them the lead back for the first time since early in the second quarter.

Leading by 10 points early, Ukraine could only manage eight points in the second quarter as Germany came back to take a five-point lead into the break.

However, Ukraine recovered in the second half, returning an early favour by containing the Germans to seven points in the last 10 minutes.

With 19 points in three quarters, Koreniuk finished as the game's leading scorer. Igor Boyarkin chipped in with 10.

David Taylor and Malik Muller both finished with 12 points for Germany.
