France have seen off some stiff Danish resistance 76-70 to go within 40 minutes of confirming their place in Division A next year at the Samsung U18 European Championship.

Denmark looked en route to cause an upset following a strong opening half but they faded badly in the third quarter, with France starting the frame on a 17-6 run to assume control for the closing stages.

Mouhammadou Jaiteh again stood out for the French with 31 points and 16 rebounds whilst Alexandre Chassang had another consistent performance for Les Blues, recording 14 points and nine rebounds.

Peter Moeller stepped out of the shadow of Rasmus Larsen, leading Denmark's scoring with 19 points.

Germany remain a chance of staying in Division A at the expense of France, defeating Poland 74-52 to improve their record in the playoff round to three-and-one.

Poland provided plenty of competition for the Germans in the opening two quarters to be holding a one-point lead at half-time.

However, Germany pulled away in following the break with Poland managing just five points in the third quarter.

David Taylor had 14 points and six rebounds for Germany whilst Malik Muller finished with 11. Johannes Thiemann and Dominic Lockhart both had 10 points.

Damian Jeszke was the only Polish player to make double figures, scoring 13 points.

The loss means Poland remain the only team yet to record a win in the championship.

Germany's showdown against France on Saturday is now shaping up as a virtual final to see what team will avoid joining Poland and Denmark in Division B next season.
