|Simone Fontecchio asserted his influence over Greece, scoring 19 points|
Italy ended Greece's five-game win streak to collect an 82-62 classification game for 9th to 12th place victory on the second last day of the U18 European Championship in Latvia.
Italy must win again tomorrow in order for the team to secure 9th place in the competition.
A surprise start from Jacopo Vedovato energised Italy to a quick start, however nine points from shooting guard Dimitrios Stamatis enabled Greece to bounce back from a slow start to take a 21-18 lead at quarter time.
Italy closed out the half on a 10-4 scoring run, using eight Greek first half turnovers to score a number of easy points, before scoring 24 points to 11 over the final 10 minutes to register a 20-point win.
Without big man Georgios Diamantakos, Italy were allowed to score 26 points in the paint while amassing 14 more fast-break points than their opponents.
19-point games from Tommaso Laquintana and Simone Fontecchio paced Italy while Stamatis and Georgios Papadionysioy led Greece with 11 points each.
