"Ingo Weiss is without any doubt an accomplished, hard-working person, who has proved how much he cares about basketball. He is more than an ideal candidate to continue the work of Peter," said FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin.
Weiss received the majority of the delegate votes in the first round of voting and consequently was elected immediately. The two other candidates were Mindaugas Balciunas of Lithuania and Mirsad Donlagic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"I saw the very good work done by FIBA Europe when I watched the presentation made by (Secretary General) Nar Zanolin (in the General Assembly 2008) and when I saw it, I felt that I would be proud to support this work and help with new ideas for the future of the sport in the spirit of the late Peter Klingbiel," said Weiss.
