Tanel Kurbas had a joint team-high 15 points for Tartu Rock |
Tartu Rock have kept their chances of advancing out of EuroChallenge Group C alive, improving their record to 3-2 with a resounding 83-60 victory over BC Zepter Vienna.
On account of recording their first European victory last week, BC Zepter Vienna still held a slim hope of going to the Last 16.
But their hopes were quickly put to rest as Tartu raced out to a 23-11 lead behind five early points from Vilmantas Dilys which had the hosts up 8-0.
With three minutes passed, Florian Trmal finally had the guests on the score-sheet but remarkably Vienna would never come any closer to taking the lead as Gert Dorbek responded from outside the arc to put the buffer back above six.
Dorbek had his sniper sight locked in, going on to finish as one of three Tartu players with 13 points, the other two being Janar Talts and Victor Simpson. However, Augustas Peciukevicius and Tanel Kurbas led the way with 15 each.
With the foundations torn out from underneath Vienna, Tartu could be forgiven for losing their way offensively in the final frame as the Austrians outscored them 18-13 to bring what had been a 32-point deficit midway through the quarter previous to a slightly more respectable 23 when the final buzzer sounded out.
Veteran Predrag Miletic was a shining light for the guests with 17 points.
