|James White was one of five players to score in double figures for Reggio Emilia|
Reggio Emilia turned in a dominant performance as they opened Group J of the EuroChallenge with a 90-68 victory over Szolnoki Olaj.
Rimantas Kaukenas scored 19 points, Michele Antonutti had 18 and James White 17 as the hosts took the lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
Szolnoki led 10-7 five minutes into the contest, but Reggio reeled off 11 straight points, capped by White's dunk to go 18-10 up, and the pattern was set.
Another big run midway through the second quarter saw the lead balloon to 37-22 when Troy Bell reeled off seven of his 11 points in a row.
A jump-shot from Greg Brunner made it 51-35 early in the third quarter and they were not done there.
White's three-point play late in the third quarter made it 66-43, the biggest lead of the night.
Szolnoki began the final stanza with a seven-point burst, a sign that Reggio were easing off, but the result had long since been determined.
Willie Warren collected 23 points for the visitors but was the only Szolnoki player to reach double figures.
Reggio Emilia Head Coach Massimiliano Menetti
"I am very satisfied with my team that showed great maturity. We came from a resounding victory against Avellino; it was not so easy to repeat the success in such a short time. The boys played with great attention to details, they remained in the game even when the ball didn't fall. Szolnoki Olaj was not an easy opponent, but we have approached the game in the right way. Tonight, the audience was less numerous than usual but it created a great atmosphere and I'm sure that for the next home game the fans will come to support us in even bigger numbers. This victory gives us the energy to face the next game with Varese. We played well, now we have to continue with enthusiasm and energy."
Reggio Emilia Player Rimantas Kaukenas
"We are happy with this victory, it was an important game. We were able to accomplish everything the coach asked of us, both in defence and offence. We managed to be fast, making points in the fast break was the key to win the game. I am the last arrival in this team and I still have to understand so much. I ask, I listen, I put myself at disposal of the team, but I still have to work a lot. I'm very happy to be here and to work with great professional people, in the team and the staff, they all have a great desire to win and they are focused to progress."
Szolnoki Olaj Head Coach Dragan Aleksic
"Congratulations to Reggio Emilia, they are a very fit team and we were unfortunate to meet this team when it is really in the best shape. The technical details have decided the game and unfortunately we made too many technical errors. We definitely lost too many balls. Reggio has definitely deserved to win because it was effective in attack and defended very well."
Szolnoki Olaj Player Willie Warren
"Grissin Bon played a great game. In the first quarter we played strong but as soon as we faced some difficulties we disunited and most of all we have lost too many balls. We were not up to the task. Even if I scored 23 points, I'm not satisfied because my goal was to win and we didn't reach it. For sure the game in Szolnok will be different, we'll play harder, we look forward to take revenge."
