Chinemelu Elonu ended with 10 points for Tofas SC Bursa as they eliminated Fortress Jaszberenyi |
Tofas SC Bursa were never in danger in cruising to a 76-54 road victory over Fortress Jaszberenyi, eliminating the hosts from Group F of the EuroChallenge.
Jure Balazic led Tofas with 13 points while Rok Stipcevic had 12 points and Chinemelu Elonu scored 10 points. In total, eight players scored at least seven points for the guests, who improved to 3-1.
Nikolas Raivio had 14 points as the leading scorer for Jaszberenyi, who remained winless at 0-4.
Raivio gave Jaszberenyi the lead to start the game and it was tied 4-4 when Tofas took control of the game with a 19-1 run for a 23-5 lead. The guests' advantage was 23-7 after one quarter.
Jaszberenyi scored the first basket of the second quarter to make it a 14-point game but Tofas continued their dominance, increasing the lead to 19 points, 39-20. The gap was 39-24 at half-time.
Tofas did not let up in the second half, pushing the margin to 23 points and then Balazic's three-ball at the third quarter buzzer made it 65-41.
The guests surged ahead by 30 points, 72-42, early in the fourth quarter. Jaszberenyi scored the next nine points, but the margin was still 21 points, 72-51 with less than three minutes left.
Sandor Földi, head coach of Fortress Jaszberenyi:
"Unfortunately, I cannot be satisfied with the team 's performance because it was a very poor today compared to the previous game. We forgot how to play basketball and I have to think about what to do next. This is unacceptable, I do not see the fire, I do not see the motivation that we had last year."
Ádám Szögi, Fortress Jaszbereny:
"I'm totally depressed. This result is not realistic. Currently it looks like the players want to make statistics more than to win as a team on the court. We have to realise that basketball is not just offense. After a good defense comes a rhythm and we can begin to attack. We could not achieve this except for the Ekaterinburg game. I do not know what the reason is because we are not in worse shape, neither physically nor mentally, than we were last year."
Ahmet Caki, head coach of Tofas Bursa:
"This was our fourth game and we had to win to keep our chance of qualifying from this group, that's why we were so concentrated. Also they played really good and they fought but I think we controlled the game from the beginning to the fourth quarter. Generally I think we played good. I like to thanks to Jaszberenyi coach, players and management. They really helped us and I would like to say good luck to them for the Hungarian regular season."
Senli Dogan, Tofas Bursa:
"We started with a good first quarter, then we could continue showing our best. We scored a lot of points thanks to our good defense. This was an important game for us and we look forward to the next game."
