GAME REPORT

Boras Overpower Bears

10. James Miller (Boras Basket)
Guard James Miller top-scored for Boras Basket against Bakken Bears

A huge fourth quarter powered Boras Basket to an 86-79 road win over Bakken Bears in their EuroChallenge Group C opener.

The Bears had used the third period to get their noses in front in a tight contest, but had no answer for the onslaught that came in the final 10 minutes as Boras outscored them 26-8.

It was a devastating response to the first real run made by either team, which came when the Bears scored nine unanswered to go 63-49 up with a little over three minutes left in the third.

James Miller replied with a three, the first of nine unanswered points from the visitors.

The Bears nevertheless began the final 10 minutes leading 71-60 after a three from Kaido Saks, but everything was about to change.

Samuel Haanpää's three highlighted a 19-3 run that flipped the game on its head to put Boras up 79-74 with 4:30 to go.

The Bears stemmed the bleeding, at least momentarily, to sit within two points 2:45 from time, but Adama Darbo's three began another Boras run and this time there was no way back.

Miller led Boras with 21 points while Haanpää had 17 and nine rebounds. Christian Maraker was just behind with 16 points and nine boards.

Morten Sahlertz had 17 points for the Bears with new signing Maurice Acker adding 16.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Bakken Bears Aarhus vs. Boras Basket

Adama Darboe, Boras
"In the 4th quarter we started playing with more intensity, and that led us to getting some good stops on defence. We played more aggressive late in the game, and that put a stop to the success they were having with the three-point shot."

Pat Ryan, Boras Head Coach
"I am very happy with this win against a good team. Late in the game we found our rhythm, and we never gave up, even though they had a very good shooting night from deep. We got the stops we needed late, but the most important thing was that we never gave up."

Ville Tuominen, Bakken Bears Head Coach
"The tipping point happened when they switched to a zone-defence in the 4th quarter. That killed our offence, and we stopped attacking. We were out of control, and we couldn't buy a basket in the paint today. Give them credit for playing great defence inside."

Nicolai Iversen, Bakken Bears
"We were in a great position to win going into the fourth quarter but we lost momentum and the tempo dropped. Our goal was to keep the opponent under 80 points and we didn't succeed in this either."
