Sandrine Gruda was the star in a dominant Ekat frontcourt
A classy display from Sandrine Gruda helped defending champions UMMC Ekaterinburg return to winning ways in EuroLeague Women Group A as they claimed a comfortable 83-55 success against Good Angels Kosice.
A fortnight after suffering their only defeat of their season so far in a loss at Tango Bourges, it was a French star who rose to the occasion against the depleted Kosice.
Gruda completed a fine double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds as UMMC followed up their recent Russian Cup title with an 11th straight home win in EuroLeague Women.
Exploiting a lack of depth and experience in the Good Angels frontcourt, Polish center Ewelina Kobryn and Candace Parker excelled in the paint with efficient shooting efforts which provided nice cameos to the headline-making Gruda.
As for the visitors, it was a tough return back to the court where they reached the semi-finals of the competition last season and perhaps no surprise that without the influential Plenette Pierson, they tasted defeat for the first time on their travels.
Kosice head coach Maros Kovacik didn't have new recruit Lynetta Kizer at his disposal, although despite being short on numbers, his team battled valiantly for the first-half.
Indeed when Miljana Bojovic drained a triple at the start of the third period, UMMC were only 39-34 in front, but as the remainder of the game unfolded, their superior quality and strength in depth allowed them to streak away with ease.
Swedish forward Farhiya Abdi led the way in defeat with 22 points and nine rebounds.
