Municipal Targoviste are in turmoil after they suffered an 89-60 blowout at the hands of Fenerbahce in EuroLeague Women Group B, and now face losing their coaching team and key players.

In a far cry from the elation of only a few weeks ago when the Romanian club won their first game at the elite level in the modern day EuroLeague Women era, the joy has been short-lived after news broke that budgets have been slashed and head coach George Dikeoulakos intends to quit.

A number of key players are also likely to follow him unless a last minute solution can be found, and after a solid season so far, a heavy defeat against his former club whom he led to the semi-finals last season was a disappointing way for his tenure to potentially end.

The hosts had little answer to some devastating finishing from their more illustrious opponents with Ivana Matovic, Agnieszka Bibryzycka and Birsel Vardarli all highly impressive and Anastasiya Verameyenka and even young Olcay Cakir also putting in efficient and clinical cameos.

Fenerbahce lost their previous game on the road at Schio and seemed intent on making sure their hosts felt the full backlash, as they raced out of the blocks to blast their way to a convincing 31-16 lead.

Whilst Targoviste battled more effectively during the second quarter, a 24-7 third period epitomised the difference in both class and application as the visitors ran riot to take advantage of the lax home defence.

Vardarli had seven assists and Bibrzycka and Matovic top combined for 39 points for Fenerbahce who move to a 5-2 record, whilst only Gabriela Marginean performed for Targoviste with 14 points.
