SOTTANA SHINES IN CUP SUCCESS
Playmaker Giorgia Sottana was the star for Schio as they claimed a 62-53 victory over Gesam Gas Lucca, to take the first trophy of the new campaign in the Italian league.
Naomi Halman did her best to deny Schio with 16 points for the losing team and the winners had to survive a final quarter drought, but had enough of a cushion to ease home and hand recently appointed Spanish head coach Miguel Mendez his first title.
CURTAIN RAISED IN LFB
The curtain was raised in the French League across the weekend with the annual showpiece LFB Open event in Paris. And, there were largely mixed outcomes for EuroLeague Women and EuroCup Women participants.
Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration are back in EuroLeague Women and they also got off the mark by taking down Nice 66-57, thanks mainly to a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds from Geraldine Robert and 18 points by Gaelle Skrela.

Tarbes Gespe Bigorre didn't exactly have the best start, which may be of concern ahead of their EuroCup Women schedule next month. They were blown away 75-48 by Charleville-Mezieres, with Serbian forward Jovana Rad contributing 13 points in defeat.
Nantes Reze produced a real team effort as they had five players rack up double-figure scores as they strode past Hainaut Basket 80-65.
BRNO EASE PRESSURE
Having slipped to a second loss of the season last week, BK Imos Brno relieved some of the pressure to move to 3-2 for the season in the Czech League.
They achieved a 78-64 derby win against Valosun Brno, with Swedish national team star Ashley Key racking up 19 points.
Brno have already fallen behind in the title race, since ZVVZ USK Prague have signalled their intent to retain their title by securing a 5-0 start.
They continued their impressive opening with a crushing 90-38 victory on the road at Karlovy Vary.
NO SLIP-UPS IN POLISH LEAGUE
Wisla had to work hard to get a win at former EuroLeague Women competitors KSSSE AZS PWSZ Gorzow. They claimed a 58-53 win thanks to Zane Tamane and Katarzyna Krezel sharing 28 points, with the home side ruing a string of unsuccessful free-throws as they missed out on a potential upset.
