BASKETBALL IN EUROPE
|Serbian forward Jelena Milovanovic suffered an injury in January and missed the second half of the EuroLeague Women season with Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje|
UNIQA Euroleasing Sopron already know the team they will have for the 2012-13 season and one of the players is Jelena Milovanovic, a EuroLeague Women All-Star in her previous spell at the club.
Milovanovic, a 23-year-old power forward, has returned to Sopron to play for coach Norbert Székely after a two-year stint at Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje in Russia.
The club, which competed in the EuroLeague Women this season and finished runners-up in the Hungarian play-offs to Uni Seat Gyor, will have Zsófia Fegyverneky, Shenise Johnson, Vivien Böröndy, Zsovár Orsolya, Fanni Szabó, Hanna Zavecz, Petra Vágvölgyi, Jelena Milovanovic, Sara Krnjic, Zsófia Licskai, Anita Teilane and Kitti Doncsecs on the books.
Sopron have had to tighten the belt the last couple of years because of challenges on the financial front, and that included the mid-season departure of 22-year-old Hungary international Tijana Krivacevic to Rivas Ecopolis in Spain.
Looking ahead to next season, Sopron's general manager Zoltan Török said: "Our aim was to build a good starting five and a young and/or motivated bench."
Török added that Sopron "stand with good basic players on thin ice. But we stand and live!"
Sopron have a proud history.
The club won the Ronchetti Cup in 1998 and have claimed numerous titles on the domestic front.
They reached the EuroLeague Women Final Four in 2009.
