|Sonja Petrovic led the charge for Sparta&K with a remarkable all-round display|
A stunning effort from Sonja Petrovic helped Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje return to winning ways in EuroLeague Women Group C with a 97-56 demolition of Kibirkstis VICI-Vilnius.
The Russian outfit returned to the scorching form which had witnessed them win six games in a row as they dented the play-off dreams of Kibirkstis, who had arrived in Vidnoje full of confidence after their win against WBC Novi Zagreb.
Petrovic has been an irresistible driving force for Sparta&K this season and once again she proved to be the kingpin with an exceptional display.
The Serbian registered a truly sparkling all-action display of 27 points from 8-of-10 floor shooting, eight rebounds, six steals and five assists.
Kibirkstis had initially battled hard to keep their illustrious opponents in check and when Greta Sniokaite converted towards the end of the first period, it was still only a one-shot game at 23-20.
However, Sparta&K turned the screw and by the break, had accumulated a sizeable 57-35 advantage.
And, any hopes of a surprise comeback by the Lithuanians were promptly extinguished by the hosts who posted a spectacular 18-2 start to the third quarter to put the outcome beyond any doubt.
Natalia Vieru also impressed by securing successive double-doubles with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Vita Kuktiene top-scored for Kibirkstis with 13 points.
Vilnius Head Coach Jurgita Streimikyte-Virbickiene
"My congratulations to Sparta&K which throughout the game beat us in all possible aspects: Mentally, physically and tactically. The bottom line is that they came fully prepared. Even though this should not be used as an excuse, this is the fourth game my team has played within the last week."
Vilnius Player Rima Valentiene
"Even though in the first minutes it seemed as if we were up to the challenge and played well, very soon thereafter Sparta&K came out strong and set their own pace. Actually [Sonja] Petrovic was unstoppable. At the same time Sparta&K took advantage of all our turnovers and that left us with no chance to close the gap."
Sparta&K Head Coach Alexander Vasin
"My players took this game very seriously unlike the one in Polkowice. While one may see the point differential and might think that this is a result of Vilnius playing poorly I can assure you that's not the case. This win and point differential is a result of a great defensive effort on part of my team. From the initial jump ball my players followed my instructions as I expect them to do in the remaining games."
Sparta&K Player Sonja Petrovic
"Because of our bad performance last week against Polkowice we put ourselves in a corner. It was our job to get out of it and that is exactly what we did. Since the first minute of the game we played with determination and by following our coaches' instructions we were able to bring the result we desired. Now we have to continue working hard and remain concentrated and focused."
