Wisla Can-Pack are yet to find a EuroLeague Women victory in front of their own fans this season after Fenerbahce claimed a thrilling 73-69 Group B win in Krakow.
The Turkish champions fought off a late Wisla revival to move to two wins, whilst home fans were left to digest a second gut-wrenching defeat, having lost their opening game to a buzzer-beater against Rivas Ecopolis.
A 21-9 run either side of the third and fourth quarter break had the visitors in the ascendancy and when Agnieszka Bibrzycka sunk a three-pointer to give Fenerbahce a commanding 64-53 with less than five minutes to play, it looked like they would coast to victory.
However, Wisa had other ideas and rallied by scoring nine of the next eleven points as Allie Quigley cut the gap to just four points, resulting in a pulsating conclusion.
Moments later, Quigley was at the centre of the action again as she completed an ‘and-1' play with a minute remaining to get her team to within a point.
And after both teams traded baskets, the result was still hanging in the balance, but free-throws by Isabelle Yacoubou either side of a vital and arguably game-winning steal, got the job done for Fenerbahce.
The French center had 14 points and 12 rebounds, with Quigley adding 22 points in defeat, whilst Justyna Zurowska also had an eye-catching display for Wisla with a 17 point haul, but couldn't prevent her team slipping to a second loss in their first three games.
Fenerbahce head coach Roberto Iniguez
"It was a very hard game and winning was very difficult. At half time we changed some things and started to play better defence first of all. Congratulations for Wisla - they are a very good team and thanks to the fans who created a wonderfull atmophere. It is something great to play for an audience like in Krakow. I wish all the best to Wisla in the next games - they deserve it."
Wisla head coach Stefan Svitek
