|Lara Sanders led Kayseri Kaski spor to their shock win with 24 points|
Lara Sanders capped a stellar 24-point evening with the two crucial free throws as Kayseri Kaski spor upset UMMC Ekaterinburg 78-77 in EuroLeague Women Group A.
Sanders battled Ekaterinburg star Diana Taurasi throughout and despite Taurasi edging the personal competition with a game-high 25 points, Sanders wouldn't be denied as Deanna Nolan was whistled for a foul with 13 seconds remaining.
The teams had traded haymakers in the final minute, with Kayseri debutant Emanuela Salopek hitting a clutch three-pointer before Anete Jekabsone responded with her own long-distance effort to put the visitors back ahead by one.
Sanders stepped to the line and drained both shots, and Taurasi's final effort fell short as Kayseri claimed a valuable win in the race for seeding in Round 2.
The visitors were unable to stamp their authority on the game as Kayseri forced numerous turnovers from the Russian team's usually stingy offence, Mirna Mazic and Sabrina Cinili helping to create opportunities for the hosts to push the ball.
Sanders was the main beneficiary, ending with 24 points on 15 shots. Tanisha Wright was excellent in running the Turkish team's offence and finished with 16 points and eight assists.
Kayseri have struggled domestically in recent weeks but are now well placed to finish in a higher position in Group A, with their final match at home to strugglers Uni Gyor on 26 February.
Taurasi was one of five UMMC Ekaterinburg players to score double-figures. She added six assists and six rebounds to her 25 points. Ekaterinburg had won seven of their previous eight Group A matches. They finish Group A at home to Beretta Familia Schio on 24 February.
