Tijana Krivacevic returned to action for Good Angels Kosice with a sparkling performance to take down HAT-AGRO Uni Gyor 67-60 and seal a place in the EuroLeague Women play-offs.
Without the recently departed Yelena Leuchanka, injured team leader Plenette Pierson and the pregnant Lucia Kupcikova, Kosice head coach Maros Kovacik breathed a sigh of relief when Krivacevic was declared healthy enough to play after a recent knee problem.
The center produced yet another fine effort which was typical of a very productive season by racking up 24 points, eight boards and three steals.
Teenage forward Zsofia Hruscakova also stepped up to the plate in support with an important cameo of 14 points and five rebounds.
Whilst Kosice led from tip to buzzer, they didn't have it all their own way against the still winless Hungarian club, who refused to lie down after coming back from an early 20-10 deficit.
Gyor were always in contention for a first Group A success after edging both middle quarters.
Led by the excellent Joslyn Tinkle and Anna Lakloth, they took advantage of another poor three-point shooting display from Kosice who couldn't finish the job early.
Even when Good Angels moved 59-47 ahead inside the last five minutes, Gyor scored nine of the next ten points to set up a tense finale.
However, the visitors held their nerve as Krivacevic made the game safe from the free-throw line.
Tinkle finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the hosts, with Lakloth claiming 15 points and six assists.
Uni Gyor Head Coach Tamas Bencze
"I am not satisfied with the result, because we wanted to win the game at home. We had a chance, but we made too many mistakes. We lost too much energy to get closer to the opponent."
Uni Gyor Player Anna Laklóth
"I am disappointed, we didn't count on this. We are going in the right direction despite the loss."
Good Angels Kosice Head Coach Maros Kovacik
"It was a tough game, but we knew that before. I am proud of the team, because we didn't play well, but we won the match."
Good Angels Player Tijana Krivacevic
"We had injured players, so we couldn't play on the level, that we wanted. But the most important thing is that we won."
