|Farhiya Abdi stole the show in BK Imos Brno's second win of the season|
A devastating shooting performance from downtown helped BK Imos Brno post their best performance of the season in EuroLeague Women Group A as they completed an 86-61 rout of Uni Gyor.
In what was only their second win of the season, Brno climbed away from bottom spot on the table after catching fire from long-range as they poured in a mesmerising nine-of-13 from behind the arc to put a shell-shocked Gyor to the sword.
There had been barely anything in the game during a tight first ten minutes of action, which left the scores tied up at 17.
But the home side cut loose during the middle two quarters, and a stunned Gyor had no answers as Brno posted a stunning 30-10 run either side of the interval.
When Veronika Vlkova drilled a triple to round off the scoring for the third quarter to put Brno 70-46 in front, it summarised the story of a game which had started as an intense tussle, but quickly developed into a decidedly one-sided affair.
There were some superb shooting displays right down the hosts' roster with Vlkova making three-of-three from outside and Anna Juvcenkova going five-of-six from the field in just 14 minutes, but it was Farhiya Abdi and Tereza Peckova who stole the show.
The former top-scored with 22 points, whilst the latter had six rebounds and 15 points from seven-of-nine floor shooting.
Nora Nagy-Budjoso stood out most for Gyor with 14 points and six rebounds in defeat.
Brno head coach Jan Bobrovský
"After a nervous first quarter we calmed down, although we had bad moments. During the second quarter we improved our defence and gradually we added more aggression and aperture. We gained the balls and we didn´t give our rivals space for shooting. I was a little disappointed that our best players lost concentration when there were rookies on the field at the end of the game. They didn´t help our novices."
Brno forward Veronika Vlková
"We've needed a win to help our psychic conditions. We believed for victory today because we lost the first game in Hungary unfortunately by only two points. We were well prepared for our rivals. Our tactic was based on good defence and it was joined by good shooting. I hope we can step into the play offs."
Györ head coach Akos Füzy
"We played well only in the first fifteen minutes. Then our rivals started to play faster with accurate shooting. Brno didn´t give us much space for shooting. We made a lot of mistakes in setting up events. We unnecessarily lost balls. In the second half we tried to change tactics. We tried to played zone defence. It did not help. Brno was better and had more confidence."
Györ forvard Nóra Nagy-Bujdosó
"In the beginning of the game we played very good. But it was only for a short time. Brno played much more aggressively and defended very well. We had problems with this tactic, we needlessly lost the ball. We wanted to turn the match to us after the break but failed. Brno increased their aggression. We lost hope of a reversal."
