GAME REPORT

Fenerbahce Outlast Domestic Rivals

9. Tina Charles (Dynamo Moscow)
Making her EuroLeague Women debut for Fenerbahce, Tina Charles proved unstoppable in the paint

Last year's defeated EuroLeague Women finalists Fenerbahce got straight back to winning ways after taking an 84-78 Group B triumph at Agu Spor Kulubu.

Tina Charles proved to be an unstoppable force for the visitors as she made the most of the home side being without kingpin Lara Sanders, who was unable to play for family reasons.

Charles racked up 19 points and was a dominant figure in the contest as Fenerbahce controlled the boards to inflict a first home loss on Agu Spor in the competition for almost a year.

Fenerbahce had made much of the early running and were 37-26 ahead when the hosts came storming back.

So much so, they not only pulled level, but Styliani Kaltsidou had the home fans roaring with approval as she gave Agu Spor a one-point lead on the stroke of half-time.

But their joy was short-lived as Fenerbahce regained control when the action resumed and a 21-12 third quarter gave them the springboard they needed for victory.

Angel McCoughtry weighed in with 18 points and eight rebounds for the winning team, while Gabriela Marginean announced her return to the tournament with 20 points for Agu Spor, with Tanisha Wright registering 26 points.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes: Agü Spor Kulübü vs. Fenerbahce Istanbul

Ayhan Avci, Agü Spor Head Coach
"It was a game where we started unlucky. We made a good job even without Lara Sanders whose contribution to our team equals 30-40%. Fenerbahce has more experience in this competition than our team. We took a risk on defence on the last two possessions, and Fenerbahce evaluated this very well. Congratulations to Fenerbahce. We learned that we can make a good job. We just need a little bit of time. We have this time. After that we may be a candidate for the Final Four."

Tanisha Wright, Agü Spor
"We're still learning about each other, but we're practicing hard."

Jacek Winnicki, Fenerbahce Head Coach
"This is the first game of the EuroLeague Women season. First of all we are very happy that we won. It is our first game away, very tough and important. We knew the situation about injured and missing players of Kayseri and so we tried to adjust to this. The team of Kayseri played zone for a lot of minutes, except for two minutes in second quarter. We lost the second quarter, but we started the second half like a new team; we put pressure on Kayseri and we played very good. Every game is important, especially away games."

Miljana Bojovic, Fenerbahce
"I am just very happy that we started this EuroLeague Women season with a win. We had ups and downs but the most important thing is that we won."
