|Vita Kuktiene rolled back the years to lift Vilnius past Polkowice with a game-high 18 points|
Kibirkstis-Vici Vilnius held their nerve from the free-throw line to take a 68-66 road win over CCC Polkowice in their first EuroLeague Women Group C game on Wednesday.
Vilnius made nine of their 10 shots from the line, most notably three in the final 15 seconds, to hang on for victory having led for most of the game.
Vita Kuktiene was responsible for the sole miss with 11 seconds to play but she made the second of the pair.
This meant her team still held a 66-65 lead after Polkowice's Jelena Skerovic's responded with a three-pointer on the fastbreak moments later.
Kuktiene returned to the line with five seconds left and this time showed complete composure to convert both and seal victory.
Kibirkstis had earlier held a 46-33 third-quarter lead after Rima Valentiene drilled a three-pointer. But Polkowice repsonded to take a 51-48 lead when Valeriya Musina and Magdalena Leciejewska opened the final stanza with back-to-back lay-ups.
The teams traded blows in a tense fourth quarter until Mante Kvederaviciute's driving lay-up gave Vilnius a 56-55 lead and sparked the decisive 9-0 run.
Kuktiene led all scorers with 18 points while Janel Mc Carville (14), Belinda Snell (11), Skerovic (11) and Magdalena Skorek (10) all hit double figures in a losing effort.
