Ukraine men’s team won their first game in a friendly tournament in Yuzhny as they beat Belarus 87-67.
Serhiy Lischuk with 14 points was the man of the match and was well supported by Yevhen Annenkov (11) and Viktor Kobzistyi (10) as head coach Hennadiy Zaschuk gave all his squad court time ahead of their opening European Championship qualifier with Germany on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Ukraine women’s team have appointed a new head coach.
Yevhen Borzilov, head coach of Russian women's side BC Spartak Moscow, has replaced Yuriy Veligura.
Borzilov had previously worked with the Ukrainian student's national team and the Moldova national team.
The Ukrainian women recently participated in two international tournaments in Lithuania and Poland where they finished first and third respectively, and Borzilov told the media: “We are spending the last training camp now. I think we'll have a good team this season.”
Borzilov also hopes that his team will win their European Championship qualifying group with their opening game being on Wednesday against the Slovak Republic.
“I don't see any place in the group for our team but the first one,” he said.
