Defending champions Azovmash edged a tight top-of-the-table encounter with MBC Odessa 74-73, closing the gap on their hosts to three points in the process.
This, despite a superb effort from the home side’s Jaroslav Zubrytskiy.
Zubrytskiy scored 26 points to help MBC to a 60-51 lead at the end of the third quarter. But Azovmash staged a brilliant recovery in the final period, outscoring the home side by 10 points to snatch a last-gasp victory.
Azovmash also have three games in hand of top side Odessa.
Sunday’s two other matches saw victories for BC Khimik and MBC Mykolaiv.
Khimik also finished strongly to beat Budivelnyk 99-74, scoring a whopping 35 points in the fourth quarter, with the hosts managing just 14 in reply.
The win moves them above BC Kyiv and into third place.
MBC Mykolaiv stay fifth after prevailing 94-86 at Vozko.
They did it the hard way, however, overturning a 52-40 half-time deficit before claiming victory.
